As an experienced defence force avionics technician, Andrew Stanley brings attention to detail, systematic problem solving and a ‘do it right’ attitude to the national role of Technical Services Coordinator. Not one to talk himself up, he brings an impressive raft of process control, technical document management and team working skills to his role, supporting both customers and WIA service agents in the field.
Andrew admits he was ‘a bit surprised at first at how technical a modern welding machine actually is’, but the principles remain the same – welding equipment needs to be as reliable, effective and fit-for-purpose as any jet aircraft. Andrew is there to make sure every piece of WIA and Miller equipment in use in Australian industry is fully backed up and supported with product manuals, data sheets, specifications and, most importantly, technical knowhow.
At home in a team working environment, Andrew enjoys talking with customers and service agents and linking them into the resources of the WIA team of industrial specialists to ensure the best possible and quickest resolution of any enquiry. ‘Helping out the team members by finding a solution to someone’s problem is really satisfying’ said Andrew.
In the future he would like to contribute some of the principles and efficiencies he learned in defence avionics to building and improving the existing product support processes and controls, to facilitate an even higher level of technical service for industry.
He loves the variety in his days, and enjoys the calm efficiency of the well-run office - which perhaps contrasts with his home life which centres around two vigorous young boys. With a lifelong interest in Rugby League Andrew is looking forward to coaching and refereeing when the boys grow older – and cheering from the sidelines.
A life-long learner, Andrew is completing a distance education degree in Engineering Management and may take this on to a higher level – if he can find the time in his busy life.
